Taskers Trophy Final 2018

On Sunday 21st October 2018 –  Lutterworth played Uttoxeter at Beeston Fields in the Taskers Trophy Final.

Last Year we were runners up and we were hoping to go one better.

John Poole went off first and after being 5 down after 5 holes, he battled back to 1 down with 2 to play. Unfortunately John lost the 17th to lose 2&1.

Bill Stubbins and Phil Harbord both won 3&2 in their matches to maintain an unbeaten run in the competition in 2018. 2-1 to Lutterworth.

Unfortunately John Keller and Martin Dickinson both lost to take the match score to 3-2 to Uttoxeter.

That left Nev Townsend and Martyn Walker out on the course.

Gentleman Nev as he is known was being the perfect gentleman to his opponent and allowed him to be 5 up with 5 to play. Nev then transformed into Federer Nev and won the next 5 holes to take the match down the 19th. This included a severe talking to the 17th bunker when the ball did not come out of the trap quite like Nev had intended.

Nev strode down the 19th with purpose, the ponytail meant business and so did the putter when Nev won the 1st extra hole, Fantastic result – Match Score 3-3.

This left Martyn Walker out on the course. 1 down with 2 to play. Martyn was giving a shot on the 17th. He was in the greenside bunker for 2. His opponent was on the green for 3 nett 2. Martyn got up and down, his opponent missed the putt.  Martyn remained 1 down with 1 to play. Martyn then won the 18th to take the match down the 19th.

Then Twig gate happened.

Martyn drove down the right, just left of a large tree. His opponent was in the rough on the left.

When Martyn reached his ball a twig was in front of it, which could not be removed as the ball would have moved. Martyn had to hit the twig before the ball which resulted in a visit to the green side hazard. Martyn took a drop and was on the green for 4. Unfortunately his opponent was on the green for 2.

Match result 4-3 to Uttoxeter.

Lutterworth were Runners Up for the second year running.

The match was played in a great spirit, Taskers were generous sponsors and excellent organisers. Beeston Fields were excellent hosts.

The Junior section of Lutterworth will benefit financially from the event.

Thank you to the other squad members that represented the team in 2018.

If you are over 50 and you wish to play match play singles please let the office know as we will be entering three Mens teams and one Ladies team in 2019.

Further County Honours for Lutterworth

In an exciting match that went to 3 extra holes the Men’s County Foursomes team of Chris Abbott, Will Watkins, Jack Malone and Zack Bevins won 3 up over Lingdale, played at Stapleford Park.

The Club Captain, Phil Harbord, was on hand all day to resolve food crises and as chief cheerleader and is pictured with the boys receiving the trophy.

What a great year so far for Lutterworth – and the next opportunity to support the teams in their ongoing success will be at Beeston Fields on Sunday 21st where the Men’s Tasker team tee off at 11:30am.

Or you can support at home on the same day (Sunday 21st October) at 09:30 am where the pair of Gemma Parkes-Walley and Charles Ray are in the Semi-finals of the Baxter trophy, hoping to make it to the afternoon final.

All support is very welcome and here is to Lutterworth’s continued success!
