Buying at J.P.Humbert Auctioneers Ltd.

Catalogues:

Paper copies are available for £2 on the day of the auction from the Main Office. They contain the details of all entered lots, including descriptions, dimensions (where applicable) estimates (what price range prospective purchasers should expect to be paying) and respective lot numbers complete with further information for buyers.

Buyers Numbers:

Buyers numbers are available on sale days. In order to obtain your number, simply fill in a registration form. You will be given a buyer’s number, which is your personal number and is valid for the current sale only. There is no fee for registration.

First Time Buyers:

Once you have obtained your buyers number, you can bid on any lot in the sale, so long as you have the funds to pay. If you have never bid at an auction before, it may be advisable to watch the auctioneer for a few lots before your lot comes up so you understand how the bidding progresses. Do not be afraid to be bold in your bidding early on so the Auctioneer can establish your interest. Please make your bid clear to the Auctioneers. If you think the Auctioneer may not have seen your bid, then call for his attention. If he misses your bid, then you miss your lot. If you are successful, show your bidding number clearly to the Auctioneer or his clerk. The speed of each auction varies but run at around 120-160 lots per hour. Commission Bids: If you wish to bid in the sale but cannot be in the room or do not wish to bid yourself, then we are happy to execute a commission bid on your behalf. Simply complete a proxy bidding form in the office or email details of your bid prior to the start of the sale and we will bid on your behalf as if you were in the saleroom. We will attempt to get your lot for the lowest price that other bids will allow.

Telephone Bids:

In addition to the above, we will be pleased to accept telephone bids, which must be booked in advance with the office. This allows you to bid confidentially in real time. We are happy to accept telephone bids for items estimated in excess of £100.

Buyers Premium:

There is a 19.5% buyers premium plus VAT at the current rate on the first £25,000. Thereafter, 15% £25,001-£500,000 and 12% £500,001 plus.

Payment:

We accept payment by the following means:

Cash, Bankers Draft or bank-to-bank transfer

Debit Card in Person and Credit Card (2% surcharge) in Person – we do not accept American Express

Cheque by Prior Arrangement (items will be released for collection only after the cheque has cleared)

Collection of Purchases:

Lots are available for collection throughout the sale (larger lots will have to wait until after the sale). Present your buyer number at the office when you have finished buying (allow 15 minutes for your lots to be processed) and you will be given an invoice. Once this has been checked and paid for in full, your invoice will be stamped enabling you to remove your items from the saleroom. A porter will check your items against the invoice for security. NB: All items bought must be removed from the saleroom on day of sale unless by prior arrangement. Storage and handling charges will apply if items are left at the salerooms uncollected after seven days. Please Note: All purchasers must satisfy themselves as to the condition of every lot prior to purchase and removal. The Auctioneers offer no guarantee whatsoever. All goods are sold in accordance with the National Conditions of sale applying at the time of sale.

INFORMATION FOR BUYERS:

We respectfully draw your attention to the Conditions of Sale printed at the back of this catalogue.

Registration. It is essential that all intending buyers obtain a purchaser number by registering at the clerk’s desk. Where possible, please register to bid prior to the sale commencing.

Bidding. Please make your bids clear to the Auctioneer and if successful, ensure that your purchaser number can be seen. If there is any doubt about either the price or the buyer, this should be brought to the Auctioneer’s attention immediately. The speed of each sale varies, but for guidance these run at approximately 100-120 lots per hour.

Estimates. Presale estimates are given in good faith and are intended only as a guide for potential purchasers.

Buyer’s Premium. A Buyer’s premium of 19.5% plus VAT will be charged on the hammer price.

Payment. Payments for lots purchased must be received in full within 48 hours of the end of the sale. ITEMS MAY NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE PREMISES UNTIL PAYMENT HAS BEEN CLEARED. We accept payment by cash, and all major credit and debit cards in person. Due to the costs incurred in accepting some cards, there will be a 2% plus VAT surcharge on credit card payments, debit cards do not incur a surcharge. Our Bankers are HSBC, Market Hill, Buckingham, MK18 1JL. Sort Code 40-15-33. We regret we do not accept payment by cheque unless by prior arrangement.

Clearance. Items purchased must be collected and removed from the premises by 12 pm on the Wednesday following the sale. Thereafter, there will be a handling charge of £25 and a daily storage charge of £2 per item. Continued failure to collect will result in goods being sold without further notice, without reserves, to recover costs.

Delivery. 

At the auctioneer’s absolute discretion we will post and pack small, light and unbreakable items.

There is a £10 handling charge for the first item, irrespective of size, each additional lot carries a handling charge of £2. Postage is at cost by Royal Mail - Special Deliver of Parcel Force 48. 

If you would like postage added to your invoice please email the office and your invoice will be amended.

We are also happy to work with couriers.

Collection by third party. If a third party is to collect the goods on behalf of a buyer, formal written authority and identification will be required before the goods can be released.

Overseas Buyers. Payment can only be accepted by Bankers Draft or Money Order in Pounds Stirling.

Value Added Tax. Lots marked with the symbol * after the lot number indicate that VAT is payable on the hammer price at the current rate, by the purchaser in addition to the Buyer’s premium.

Commissions. We are always happy to execute bids on behalf of intending buyers, and no charge is made for this service. Lots will be purchased as cheaply as permitted by other bids and reserves. Bids should be submitted to J.P.Humbert Auctioneers Ltd at least one hour before the sale commences and should be entered on the forms provided. Bids left by telephone are at the caller’s risk and should be confirmed in writing.

Firearms. Firearms cannot be released without production of the necessary firearm certificate.

Endangered species. Buyers are reminded that the sale of endangered species of flora and fauna are regulated under the Convention on Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES)

Other Services. J.P. Humbert Auctioneers Ltd is able to offer advice on valuations, probate, insurance claims, etc.

Refreshments. Hot and cold refreshments will be available on sale days.

Parking. Ample car parking is available free of charge and at the owners risk.

Washrooms. A washroom is available within the salerooms, which is inspected regularly by members of staff. Any problems or shortfall in standards should be reported to staff.
